Warming up was needed by some participants from Turku. For them +100 degrees Celcius in the sauna
was not enough!
The start. Those wooden planks are the goal - time was stopped
when they were touched by the competitors.
Here is the "swimming pool" with two competitors which
are swimming towards the turning point.
In the front of the picture is one rescue-diver with
scuba-rig on. In the background you see two officials
and two wet-suit rescue divers. This kind of security
organization is used only in competitions.
Though this should be taken in relaxed frame of mind,
the timing and competing may result in unneeded
stress.
Here you can also see the under-water lights!
The rescue team. From left Aleksi, Pärä, Jokke.
The local radio was also present making a program.
Juha-Veli Jokinen from Radio957 interviews the Santa Claus
and Miss Märkä Mirri (Miss Wet Pussy). There was
also a competition for the most outrageous swim suit :-)
The blue mat is electronically heated. It prevents the icing of the walk from
sauna to the lake.
Santa with wet fur receiving his participation medal
after the refreshing swim.
The railing is also electronically heated - otherwise the wet hands of
swimmers would be frosen to the metal.
The competition is over. Normal swimmers return to their avanto.
Divers are disassembling the arena.
Here you can clearly see the under-water light shining between the divers.
