Journeying

Nature in Raumanmeri archipelago and the changes in scenery and light, both in different times of the day and seasons, never cease to intrigue and fascinate me. On the one hand, I look far to the horizon and distant islands, and on the other hand, I discern minute details like moss on a rock or paint peeling off from the bottom of an old boat. I look at life in a similar fashion, both gazing far ahead and marveling at single events.

In my work I depict different moods, the passing of time and the chains of events. I may examine details but I want my work to remain allusive. The way I work is often intensive and focused. It varies from me being systematical to throwing myself into work, which makes the process both hard and enjoyable.

Colour has always had a deep significance to me. The glow of colours and the infinite number and possibilities of different shades are amazing. Recently, I have worked with different materials such as clay, paper string and wire. As a result, the feel of material has become important to me in painting as well. The suppleness, thickness and moving of colour on the canvas is fascinating, beautiful and full of surprises.

Creative work is often hard and difficult. However, the possibilities and challenges in painting, as well as the joy of continuously finding something new, maintain my passion for creative work.

Art is journeying with curiosity and ceaseless wonder.
