One
of the most famous actionfilmstars today is Steven Seagal.
Seagal was
born in 1951 in Lansing, Michigan. In 1956
his family
moved to Fullerton, California. The year 1958 was
very
important in Seagal`s life: He saw a martial arts demonstration,
where a
small man could defend himself against many attackers.
Seagal
become interested in martial arts and started to practice them.
Nowadays he
holds black belts in aikido, karate, judo and kendo.
In aikido he
has 7th dan. (Seventh degree black belt.)
His first
aikido instructor in California was Harry Ishisaka.
He received
his first dan in 1974 from Koichi Tohei. Soon thereafter
he travelled
to Japan and practiced in Tenshin Aikido Dojo,
which was
owned by the parents of his Japanese wife. He returned
to USA in
1982 and opened dojos in Los Angeles and Taos,
New Mexico.
In aikido-world he also uses the name Take Shigemichi.
Today his is
an only non-asian who has opened a dojo in Tokyo.

Besides an
actor Steven Seagal is a scriptwriter, musician,
director,
and he has been a bodyguard to several heads of state.
He is also a
master of weaponry and an expert marksman.
