First I would like to tell about my Italo Disco hobby. It all started when my big brother managed to get our first stereo set. It was early 80's and our first records were mostly rock and heavy based music. Artists like Judas Priest, Scorpions, DIO, Rainbow and Beatles. Later there was also some pop and disco vinyls as well. And finally it was time for eurodisco. Even today these eurodisco pruducers manage to get new dance artists to the spotlight. Best example would propably be Dieter Bohlen. Man behind Modern Talking and Blue System. Dieter made also songs for C.C.Catch, Chris Norman and Bonnie Tyler. That golden 80's... It was time when (at least here in Finland) these artists were IN: Modern Talking, Bad Boys Blue, C.C.Catch, Fancy, Rick Astley, Sandra, Samantha Fox, Sabrina and Pet Shop Boys.

Today when you take a look MTV or ViVa you would see videos with amazing special effects. Early in the 80's it was a bit different. If you now take a look videos of that time, you would propably find them a bit amusing. (especially those strange 80's clothes :) anyway... Here in Finland we watched German music show called "Peter's Pop Show" This program intoduced greatest rock, pop and disco artists to the finnish audience. However soon after my brother bought one of our best record called "Das Beste Aus PETER'S POP SHOW" and what a record it was !!! It was first time when I heard Sandra's Maria Magdalena and Den Harrow's Don't Break My Heart. The songs were so great that I wanted to know more about this kind of music. And soon in our bookshelf was our first disco album. It was C.C.Catch "Diamonds, Her Greatest Hits". Soon after this more disco records arrived to our shelf, artists like Bad Boys Blue and Fancy. Here in Finland there was a DJ duo (Jarkka and Samppa) and they mixed some disco song together and there it was... POWER MIX. Artists like Mike Mareen, Hurricanes and The Fans with their great song O'le, O'le, O'le (we are the champs) and many others were well knew because of these Power Mixes. This kind of disco music had it's own name... Italo Disco. In that time (late 80's) these Italo Disco albums were in almost every record shop, nowadays... it's different. If you're lucky you would probably find Italo vinyl or CD in the shop. But things changed in mid 90's. Internet made it possible to find and buy these great records again. Behind my old Italo vinys there was record label... ZYX music. I wondered if this company still makes Italo records. It was relief to find out that this company was still making these awesome records. Nowadays it is easy to buy Italo records from the internet. ZYX music has pretty good pages were you could listen audio samples, so you don't have to buy something that you wouldn't know.
If someone thinks that Italo Disco is only music for fans of the 80's... you are wrong. Italo Disco is still on high course in eastern europe. You could find Italo fans all around the world...Finland, Sweden, Russia, Poland, Germany, France and even from Mexico, South Korea and Japan. In England and in USA this kind of music is unknown because of massmedia. Have you ever seen Italo Disco video on MTV after 1995 ??? German music channel ViVa plays sometimes Italo or eurodisco video or two. Netmaniak, Adam is right about that when he says that you would have to have Italo disco serch engine if you want to get more information about artists like Savage without getting articles about Savage Garden. Every day when you turn on your radio and what you would hear... 30 different songs played at least 50 times / day !!!!! That's insane ! That's why I keep my radio closed. And thats why I don't buy so much records anymore. You're getting tired about same songs playing over and over again on the radio. Fortunately Italo disco survived from the attack of massmedia. If music is ignored by massmedia, only then you still want to listen old records. You will never get bored of them. Italo disco has still it's own dignity.

Thanks to computers it is possible to convert old vinyls to CD's or Mp3's. My own playlist always contains italo songs. My wish is, that everyone who likes this kind of music also buys it. I think it is OK to have some downloaded Mp3 files but please, if there are records in you shop... buy them and don't copy those records. To get a good start is to buy some Italo collections so you would get good idea about who is your favourite artist. Keep the shops busy by asking Italo records. You will find good quality record shops in Holand and in Germany. So if you travelling around these countries it is good opportunity to buy italo CD or vinyl. If Italo Disco is new to you... click Radio and then you would be tuned in to the Radio Stad Den Haag. This station plays italo and eurodisco 24 h / day.
